I Didn't Achieve My 2015 Revenue Goal
I wasn't even close. I missed hitting the mark by a whopping $20,000.
My first instinct was to feel pretty disappointed in myself. In fact, about midway through the year, when I realized just how far away from the goal I was, I started to pull back and shut down.
I felt defeated and a bit like, what's the freaking point?? I'm just not where I want to be and nothing I do is going to get me there.
However, and this is a pretty big however, my 2015 revenue was 4 times what I brought in during 2014. 4 TIMES! That's kind of awesome actually - despite falling so short of my actual goal.
So what happened??
I set my goal based on a should.
I had this number in my head that I felt I should be making a year based on my age and where I felt like I should be at this point in my life.
That is how I set my goal. I didn't think about what would be a natural progression for where I was in my business or how I would feel as I struggled to make that huge goal a reality.
And the first half of the year, I felt terrible. I was so overwhelmed, stressed out, working all the time, bloated, not sleeping well, always questioning and doubting whether I could make this work; overall pretty unhappy actually.
And in addition to feeling crummy, I also slowed my progress, by burning myself out and letting my fear run the show.
Have you ever done something like this? Set a big, aggressive goal and burnt yourself out trying to achieve it? Or felt so overwhelmed by it that you didn't even really get started?
We think that being hard on ourselves, that pushing ourselves to where we think we should be is going to motivate us, but it doesn't. For many of us, it just shuts us down. We lose momentum, get stuck spinning our wheels, and feel crappy and behind in the process.
But it doesn't have to be this way. At this time of year we have the perfect opportunity to break out of this old cycle. It all starts setting your goals based on what truly matters to you, how you want to feel, and what you can realistically accomplish rather than the shoulds.
This is easier said than done, trust me, I know! So I'm hosting a FREE LIVE CALL Monday January 25th to walk you through the process step by step. We'll be throwing out the old paradigm that has you struggling to catch up and instead we'll be looking at how you can create a year you'll actually enjoy - a year you'll love.
Because life is just too short not to go for joy.
We all have that one area - maybe it's your body, your career, your love life - that feels like no matter what we do, we can't seem to get where we want to go. Or maybe it feels like all three are just in the middle, not bad but not great. We know more is possible, but the old way simply isn't getting us there.
It all comes down to how we set our goals and plans. And there's a better way. I am so excited to share it with you.
